Yarovaya announced the study of responsibility for Russophobia - Kommersant

State Duma Vice Speaker Irina Yarovaya said that politicians, together with the expert community, are working on “legal norms” to impose liability for Russophobia. According to her, Russophobia is “produced primarily by officials,” and they must bear the responsibility.

Among the examples of Russophobia, she named the denial of employment and medical care, the removal of theatrical performances and concerts, as well as restrictions on the use of the Russian language. “With regard to Russophobia, we have now begun with the relevant departments to work out legal norms, legal decisions. We hope that in the near future we will present the first developments, – said “Izvestia” Mrs Yarovaya.

The Vice Speaker specified that protection against Russophobia would apply not only to Russian citizens, but also to compatriots. She also proposed the creation of special offices abroad, where “subject to manifestations of Russophobia” will be provided with free legal assistance and help in filing lawsuits. Relevant requests will be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

In May, Deputy Minister of Justice Andrey Loginov offered formalize the concept of “Russophobia” in the legislation. He also considers it necessary “to form mechanisms for the prevention and dissemination of information hostile to Russia, its people and language, and to establish responsibility for Russophobic activities.” Irina Yarovaya called for introducing criminal punishment for Russophobia in Russia.
