Expert Burhailo named two ways to use an old Wi-Fi router
An old home Wi-Fi router should not be thrown away, it can still be used. This was stated in an interview with radio Sputnik by telecommunications expert Vyacheslav Burkhaylo. He believes that the old device will expand the capabilities of the new one.
The old device can be used both to boost the signal (repeater) and to connect more devices to the main router (switch). This will make the home network more functional. In any case, the old device will need to be wired to the new one. At the same time, the expert noticed that most routers can act as a switch.
Burhailo explained how to properly connect two routers together. The cable must go from the LAN port of the new device to the WAN port of the old one. The entry point is easy to find. The WAN port is usually located a little apart from the others and is color-coded.
Is it possible to use the old device to amplify the signal – you need to find out before installation. It is worth studying the characteristics of the old router. This can be done, for example, on the manufacturer’s website. Or look at the web interface. Any more or less experienced user can set up an old device as a repeater. All instructions can be found online.
