Yandex announced the launch of a new version of the search – Y2, which now occupies the main page. New features include voice-over video, object search, and accounts for kids.

You can ask a search question by text, voice or using a picture. In the latter case, you need to “point a smart camera at an object or upload an image from the phone’s gallery,” the company’s press release says (Kommersant has it).

A block appears on the main page of ya.ru and in the application, where the history of requests, saved articles and tips will be stored. Also in the search appeared automatic voice translation of the video into Russian. Video translation is available from English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

In addition, children’s accounts appeared in Y2. They were created to “protect the child from age-inappropriate content.” A child’s account can be linked to an adult. It also works on other Yandex services – Music and Kinopoisk.

November 25 Yandex announced about the intention to split the company into two parts. The Dutch Yandex NV plans to eventually withdraw from the shareholders of the group of companies and change its name. Most of the company’s services, including cloud services, will continue to operate on the Russian market. According to Kommersant’s sources, the foreign structure will abandon the Yandex brand.
