Archaeologists have found evidence of the participation of dachshunds in gladiator fights

Archaeologists from the University of Liverpool first discovered the remains of small dogs that look like dachshunds during excavations at the Colosseum. This is reported by The Telegraph.
Starting in January 2021, scientists have been conducting research on the remains of the Coliseum’s sewer system. During excavations, they found the remains of food from spectators who visited the Colosseum about two thousand years ago, as well as the bones of animals that took part in the battles.
It is noted that the found animals reached a height of less than 30 cm, and also had an elongated body. Presumably, they performed acrobatic stunts and also participated in mock hunts.
“We don’t know for sure, we can only say that the remains found belong to the ancestors of modern dachshunds,” the archaeologists said.
They suggested that a large pack of such dogs often opposed bears and other large animals.
