Bloomberg: Apple may lose 6 million iPhone Pro due to unrest at the Chinese plant

Disorder at contractor Apple’s large Chinese factory in Zhengzhou is likely to cut production by nearly 6 million iPhone Pro units this year, reports Bloomberg. The situation at the plant remains volatile and loss estimates are subject to change. Much will depend on how quickly Taiwanese plant manager Foxconn can get people back on assembly lines after violent protests against covid restrictions. If the quarantine continues, production will continue to be suspended.
Foxconn manufactures a significant portion of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, Apple’s most sought-after smartphones this year. These premium devices offset the drop in demand for regular iPhone 14 models. Apple has already lowered its production target to around 87 million units, compared to an earlier forecast of 90 million units. A Bloomberg source notes that in 2023, Apple and Foxconn plan to make up for 6 million units of lost iPhone Pro production.
