Vologda Arena has officially opened its doors to Vologda residents
The grand opening of the ice palace “Vologda Arena” took place in the regional capital on February 17. About nine thousand square meters of space, 788 seats in the stands, a modern ice field – the long-awaited sports facility has officially opened its doors to Vologda residents. Future world-class champions will train here.
The opening ceremony of the ice palace was attended by representatives of the federal and regional authorities, eminent athletes and just sports fans – the event gathered a full house. The opening of the Vologda Arena could also be viewed online.
“Today is a significant event for Vologda, the Vologda Oblast, the North-West of Russia and the whole country. A modern palace has been opened in the capital of our region. A few years ago, we could only dream that we would build it. Today the sports Olympic history of Vologda will begin here. It is here that world champions, Olympic champions, those stars who will glorify the Vologda region and the country in a few years will be brought up,” Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov noted.
A significant part of the ceremony was the handing over of a symbolic key to a young hockey player and figure skater. It is for these sports that training will take place on the ice arena. By the way, the Vityaz school is already accepting classes. It was also possible to enroll a child in figure skating and bandy classes during the ceremony. In addition, at the opening, parents could personally communicate with the coaches.
In free time, the Vologda Arena will organize mass skating.
A whole solemn program was prepared for the guests of the ice palace. Figure skating stars took to the ice: Olympic champions Nikita Katsalapov and Victoria Sinitsina, figure skater Sofya Samodelkina, silver medalist of the 2019 European Championship Alexander Samarin. The President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Vladislav Tretiak made a congratulatory speech.
The highlight of the evening was the laser show “Vologda Oblast – the Soul of the Russian North”, and the final touch was the match of the National Youth Hockey League. Teams “Bryansk” and Cherepovets “Metallurg” met on the ice rink. The game ended with the score 7:1 in favor of Cherepovets.
Let us add that the Vologda Arena Ice Palace was built under the federal program “Sport is the norm of life” in 2.5 years. The construction of the facility cost 1.2 billion rubles. Vologda residents chose the location of the palace and its name themselves. The arena is easily accessible from both Byvalovo and the city center.
“Now residents do not have to travel to the District to play hockey and figure skating. The ice on Pugacheva Street is completely overloaded – the guys were forced to train early in the morning or late in the evening. Therefore, not everyone could go in for figure skating and hockey. But now we have the ice of the highest level, and our Vologda residents have the opportunity to practice these sports,” said the Mayor of Vologda Sergey Voropanov.
The first floor of the ice palace is occupied by stands, an arena, a cardio area and locker rooms. On the second floor there is an aerobics room, a gym, changing rooms and a cafe.
“VologdaArena” is equipped with the latest technology. There is a water treatment system for pouring ice, air conditioning for the halls, a refrigeration unit, and two ice machines.
The Ice Palace was the first stage of a large-scale project to create a sports core in the Byvalovo microdistrict. Another facility is being built nearby – the Golden Puck sports and recreation complex. The buildings will be connected by a warm transition. It is planned that sportsmen’s training and public skating will take place in FOK. An ice rink, a professional curling and climbing wall, and a cardio zone will be equipped here.
In addition, an open-type sports and recreation complex will appear on Poet Romanov Street. At the moment, its construction is completed by 70%.
As a result, a sports core will be created in Vologda, where both training and competitions will be possible. At the same time, the infrastructure of the Vityaz school can be considered one of the best in the country.
