Study on biased personnel policies in Russia reveals new trends
Company executives avoid hiring single mothers. In Russia, married women, but without children, are treated a little better, fearing that they could go on maternity leave at any moment. We are talking about both commercial companies and government organizations that routinely violate labor laws.
Every fifth company in Russia (19%) has unspoken preferences regarding the social status of women, every seventh (14%) avoids hiring some men. These are the data from a study by a large service for finding high-paying jobs (a thousand respondents from 226 Russian cities took part in the survey).
HR managers look not so much at the candidate’s marital status, but at the presence (or absence) of children. Nine percent of personnel officers never hire nulliparous Russian women, regardless of their matrimonial status. A woman who has a child, but is divorced or has never been married, has a three times higher chance of getting a place than a childless woman. But it’s also not too big compared to other candidates.
The situation for men is a little different. The presence of children is a very favorable sign for the employer. But if the applicant has not yet acquired an heir (no matter whether he is married or not), he will be denied one out of eleven companies.
The ideal candidate for an employer is a Russian with children who has been married for a long time (regardless of gender, although other things being equal, preference is usually given to men).
