Former head of the Tsvetlit company Sergei Volkodav, one of the defendants in the case of theft during the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome, died in a hospital in a pre-trial detention center, reported RBC with reference to a source close to the FSIN. According to him, he was injured as a result of a fight with a cellmate. According to TASS and Izvestia, the man died in the capital’s hospital.

“He was provoked into a conflict by a cellmate; as a result of the fight, he received a head injury and was first put in the medical unit of pre-trial detention center No. 4, and then transferred to the Matrosskaya Tishina hospital,” a source told RBC. At the hospital, Sergei Volkodav underwent craniotomy. He fell into a coma. According to “Izvestia”he died today, January 11, in the morning.

TASS Law enforcement agencies reported that the man was transferred to the hospital on December 31 “due to illness,” and on January 10 the investigator lifted his preventive measure in the form of detention. “He died of a stroke,” the agency was told. Telegram channel source “112” clarified that Volkodav was transferred to a Moscow city hospital with a diagnosis of “chronic subarachnoid hematoma with hemorrhage.”

In January 2022, the Khabarovsk court sentenced Sergei Volkodav and his brother Yuri – the former head of the Main Military Construction Directorate (GVSU) No. 6 (Dalspetsstroy) – to 4.9 and 6.5 years in prison in the case of theft during the construction of the cosmodrome “Oriental”. After considering appeals, taking into account the time spent in pre-trial detention, both were released.

Meanwhile, in September 2023, it became known that Sergei Volkodav was accused of embezzling about 1 billion rubles. in the execution of government contracts concluded with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “State Institution “Instroy” under Spetsstroy of Russia.” He was in jail for this case.
