In Buryatia it is allowed to kill animals “responsibly”: “There are more than 1,500 in line”

In Buryatia, a scandalous law on the mass disposal of abandoned and stray animals has come into force, which is camouflaged as “responsible attitude towards them”

The day before, the first mass euthanasia took place in one of the municipal shelters of Ulan-Ude, which volunteers call “exemplary flogging” and the desire of local authorities to demonstrate their strength and capabilities.

On January 10, at about one o’clock in the afternoon, representatives of the veterinary department entered the medical unit of the Ananda municipal shelter in Ulan-Ude “to conduct an inspection” and closed themselves off from everyone.

Until the disposal team left the shelter, no one suspected anything. And when they left, it turned out that 18 dogs had been euthanized.

When last year the State Duma adopted amendments to the law on the responsible treatment of animals, which essentially freed the hands of the regions in the fight against homeless mongrels, everyone understood that in the future we were talking about mass executions. And there were protests, and there was wide resonance, and even many artists publicly spoke out against it. But our artists are noticed only when they jump naked, and when they save our little brothers, no one needs or is interested in this.

Buryatia became a pioneer, which is obvious. Here they have long been trying to resolve the issue of stray four-legged animals, and where there have actually been cases of them attacking people, so the problem was solved in the most radical and simple way.

“Execute, you can’t pardon,” or whatever the good New Year’s fairy tale says?

It started in Buryatia, then the initiative will probably spread to the rest of the country. The scheme will be tested and adjusted to the characteristics of the regions. In contrast to the OSVV project, that is, “Catch-Sterilization-Vaccination-Return”, which in the current economic situation is apparently too expensive.

Well, what – sterilization and microchipping, as in soulless Europe, costs a lot of money. Previously, when life was more fun, these funds were allocated, but now there is not enough money in the budgets, so it is more profitable to kill.

“In passing, 18 lives were taken away, which we save with such difficulty,” local animal rights activist Ekaterina Krotova told MK about the details of what happened. According to her, the weakest and sickest were chosen for killing. The volunteers tried to negotiate to give the pets time to find new owners, but no one wanted to listen to them. “In general, they seemed to come in with the goal of euthanizing 50 dogs at once, but somehow they managed to come to an agreement.”

There are currently approximately 1,800 more animals on the waiting list for killing. Plus or minus. 123 were saved – their owners were quickly found. They gave a cry on the Internet. Concerned residents of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, and even Komsomolsk-on-Amur responded. “We send them dogs with train connections, or they come for them themselves. They’re in a hurry. There are not even direct flights from some cities. It is clear that there is not enough strength, time, money, everyone has families and children,” the animal rights activists continue the story.

Volunteers say that at first they wanted everything to be beautiful. The dogs were photographed by a professional photographer and posted online so that everyone could choose the dog they liked. But now there is no time for beauty – days and hours are counting. There are a lot of homeless dogs, there are few people who want to save them, and dog advocates have no administrative resources at all.

At the same time, no one has repealed the article in the Criminal Code on cruelty to animals. But as soon as what was happening was called the wondrous phrase “humane euthanasia,” as the deputies discussing the amendments stated, the picture took on a completely different look, “civilized.”

Until recently, the only basis for euthanizing an animal in Russia was an incurable disease that caused it intolerable suffering. However, who will conduct a forensic examination to check whether the euthanized dogs in Ulan-Ude had fatal diagnoses?

The authorities easily gave their blessing to kill dogs, hiding behind, as it seems to them, unconditionally good goals. You can always find a worthy reason to justify any evil and cruelty. Only how kind people are is judged not by how well they talk about themselves, but by what they do and why.

Will there be fewer homeless mongrels? No. Because all living things reproduce. Nature abhors a vacuum. These are its laws. And the more this or that species is killed, the more it will multiply. In Ulan-Ude, as volunteers say, they constantly find boxes with abandoned puppies.

And now there is no money left for sterilization. By the way, all the euthanized mongrels were vaccinated and sterilized, so they did not pose a threat.

“People endlessly throw out newborn puppies or send pet dogs to walk on their own, and they are caught and taken to shelters. We are trying to convey to the officials that they will destroy this batch of animals, but there will be no point. There is, you know, such a thing as a food supply. For example, 2-3 dogs live in the yard. They are used to the residents, they are known there and fed. These good dogs are removed, so new, more aggressive and evil ones will appear in the food supply. This is usually the case with abandoned pets. A stray dog ​​that grew up on the street can outrun a person a kilometer away. And it’s those whom people have already betrayed that attack and bite,” the volunteers say indignantly.

Yes, animals are not to blame for the fact that people are animals. It’s hard to argue with this.
