WMO experts: 2023 set records for heat, melting glaciers and destructive fires

Experts from the World Meteorological Organization reported that 2023 not only became the hottest year in 174 years of observation, but also set many other climate records.

Ocean heat content, sea level rise, and sea ice loss in Antarctica were at their highest. Fires in Canada have reached record levels of destruction, a WMO report says.

The increase in capacity obtained through renewable energy sources amounted to 510 gigawatts.
