Windows 11 will no longer support Android applications from 2025 – Kommersant

American corporation Microsoft reported, that from March 5, 2025, it will no longer be possible to run Android applications on Windows 11. The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) was announced along with Windows 11 and appeared on the operating system in October 2021.

Applications and games for Android that users have already downloaded will continue to work, but downloading new applications and updating existing ones will no longer be possible. Also, you won’t be able to find Android apps in the Amazon AppStore.

Microsoft regularly updated WSA, so its closure may have come as a surprise to users. Amazon, which collaborated with Microsoft to develop WSA, said it will ensure a smooth end to customer and developer support.

By opinion The Verge, Microsoft initially made it possible to run Android apps on Windows 11 due to Apple’s success in porting programs from iOS to MacOS. However, even with Amazon’s support, Microsoft didn’t have official access to Google Play, making downloading Android apps on Windows 11 a hassle-free experience. Perhaps this was the reason for abandoning WSA.
