Wiener called Russians who want to go to the 2024 Olympics a “team of homeless people”

Going to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status is humiliating, said the President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFKhG) Irina Viner. In a conversation with RIA Novosti, she compared such athletes to homeless people who have neither a flag nor an anthem.

“My opinion was voiced at the presidential council in Perm, and it has not changed since then. In Paris they said that Russians should compete in a team of homeless people, and now this is happening. A team of homeless people without a flag, an anthem, or fans will go to the Olympics,” said Irina Viner.

She noted that athletes from all over the world will participate in the Games under their own anthem and flag, and attend the opening and closing parades, except for Russia.

“I consider it humiliating when medalists stand under a white flag, and champions also listen to music similar to a “funeral march” instead of the anthem,” added the president of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Earlier, three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina said that The attitude of Russians towards the Olympics has worsened due to the exclusion of athletes from the Russian Federation from the competitions. According to her, most Russian residents may be uncomfortable with the small number of athletes from the country competing in a neutral status.
