The number of accidents involving electric scooters in the Russian Federation has increased by more than 40 times since 2019. This was reported by the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin in the Telegram channel, he is quoted by aif.ru.
According to him, a couple of years ago this problem was not widespread, but now the situation has changed. In connection with accidents, not only drivers of electric scooters, but also minors and pensioners, are hospitalized, the speaker of the State Duma explained.
Volodin recalled the experience of other countries where they limit the movement of electric scooters or issue a fine for driving on public roads. In Japan, for example, you need a driver’s license to drive an electric scooter.
In the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin added, from this year the rules of the road for electric scooters, unicycles, gyroscopes and other means of individual transportation are in force, but “there is something to work on.”
“… It is important that everyone is aware of their responsibility, especially in cases where people suffer as a result of their driving,” Volodin concluded.
