Volodin rejected the idea of ​​allowing those imprisoned for serious crimes to become teachers

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called for the withdrawal of the bill proposing to allow those who have served time for intentional grave and especially grave crimes to work as teachers, educators and trainers. Mr. Volodin considered this initiative erroneous.

He said that yesterday, October 17, this project was discussed “as a matter of priority” before the start of the plenary meeting with members of the State Duma Council. “The general consensus is that this initiative will lead to mistakes, which could then hurt our children. I’m more than sure that the vast majority of parents think so – they are ready to entrust their child only to people with an impeccable reputation,” wrote Vyacheslav Volodin in Telegram.

He clarified that, according to the legal department of the Duma, the initiative is not consistent with Art. 331 and 351 of the Labor Code. “I hope that the authors of the bill will withdraw their initiative and will not bring it to a meeting of the State Duma. Otherwise, it will have to be rejected,” the speaker warned.

Bill contributed to the State Duma on October 16. Its authors were deputies Irina Rodnina, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Vladislav Tretyak, Valentina Pivnenko and Pyotr Tolstoy (all from United Russia). It was assumed that those convicted of serious and especially serious crimes who had behaved impeccably for at least ten years after serving their sentence and were engaged in social activities would be able to work with children. At the same time, the law should not have applied to Russians with a criminal record, for example, for murder or rape. Mr. Tolstoy withdrew the signature on October 17.
