Moscow veterinarians have updated the rehabilitation plan for the rescued Dixon bear. Experts recommended changing the position of the bear more often during the training and using different coverings in the enclosure, said Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.
It is noted that the plan was drawn up after consultations with foreign rehabilitation specialists.
“In addition to foot stimulation and habitat enrichment, which zoologists are already actively pursuing, experts recommend changing the bear’s position more often during training: encouraging it to take turns sitting and lying down,” Akulova wrote. in your telegram channel.
According to her, exercises on correct positioning were added to the rehabilitation. The plan included rotations of the body in the prone position, which will help the muscles maintain the correct position of the body. In addition, experts will help the bear move its legs to the desired position and re-learn how to position its body parts.
Experts advised to make the ramp longer and flatter, and to use different surfaces in the enclosure, including rough, artificial grass. All this will help Dixon gradually again feel the position of his body in space.
Recall that in early September, the bear was brought to Moscow. The animal was diagnosed multiple fractures and gunshot wounds.
