The head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, announced a professional retraining program for combatants on Wednesday at a plenary meeting of the All-Russian Pedagogical Forum “Memory is Sacred”. “On the basis of the State University of Education, a center was created this year, I will say this for the first time, for the retraining of teachers — veterans of a special military operation, participants in other hostilities for the implementation of a new subject area with the priority of practical training for the new subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland””, the minister said.

Back in January 2023, Mr. Kravtsov stated that veterans of the special operation in Ukraine would have the opportunity to teach military training in schools, but for this they would first have to undergo retraining.

The subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland” from September 2024 should replace the “Fundamentals of Safe Life” (OBZH) in schools. “Kommersant” described in detail the features of introducing this subject into the school schedule.

Sergey Kravtsov notes that in this subject, the module of initial military training, which is already being implemented as part of the OBZh, will be strengthened. So, as part of this module, schoolchildren in grades 10-11 will start studying ways to counter unmanned aerial vehicles from this year.
