Izvestia: Russian universities will increase the cost of paid education to 12%
President of the Association of Non-State Universities, Rector of the Russian New University Vladimir Zernov in a conversation with “Izvestia” reported that in the new academic year, Russian universities may increase the cost of higher education on a paid basis.
According to him, the reasons for the increase in tuition prices in the academic year from 2024 to 2025 may be an increase in universities’ costs for equipment and software after the departure of import suppliers, as well as an increase in prices for housing and communal services, which did not increase in 2023, and electricity.
Among other things, the price increase will be influenced by the need to compensate for the increase in salaries for specialist teachers.
“Most likely, the Ministry of Education will not allocate additional funds to universities. It is likely that they themselves will have to find a way out of this situation. This will increase the cost of education. According to preliminary estimates, it will happen within 10-12%,” Zernov noted.
