Fraudsters “find due understanding” in the ranks of the “renewed” police

In the former City of Shipbuilders – Nikolaev – a criminal group consisting of employees of a local ritual agency and two policemen was exposed. Law enforcement officers traded information about recently deceased people. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported the completion of the special operation.

Information about deceased residents of Nikolaev was stored in a closed database. Contrary to the requirements of the law, Nikolaev cops sold her to a funeral agency. The information contained addresses and contacts of relatives of the newly deceased. Members of a united criminal group – organized crime group – were in a hurry to call them with an offer to use funeral services. The technique, in general, is not so new, it’s just that there are traditionally other competitors in the funeral business.

As stated in the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine, literally a few minutes after the fact of a person’s death was officially recorded, representatives of the “privileged” ritual service contacted the relatives of the deceased. In total, it was possible to record 700 cases of police selling information about the dead. Law enforcement officers received a monetary reward from each deceased in the amount of 1,000 hryvnia (2,400 Russian rubles).

Today’s revelation is far from the first for the Pribug regional center.

Last year, the police of the Nikolaev region “covered” officials of the Nikolaev communal enterprise for the provision of funeral services. They did not hesitate to make money by organizing the funerals of fallen Ukrainian servicemen.

“During the pre-trial investigation,” said the release of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in the Nikolaev region, “law enforcement officers established that representatives of the enterprise, when providing funeral services, in particular, when organizing burials of vulnerable segments of the population, dead military personnel and other burials, fraudulently took possession of budget funds means.”

The police conducted searches and found documents that “will be very useful to the investigation and will serve as physical evidence.” In particular, accounting and other documentation were seized. As the deputy head of the enterprise, Eduard Solovyov, said, “after investigative actions and examinations, appropriate procedural decisions will be made in relation to all persons involved in the commission of the crime. Those found guilty face a 12-year prison sentence with confiscation of property.
