Two-thirds of Russians support the introduction of the “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” course in universities

As shown survey VTsIOM, the majority of Russians approve of the introduction of a new discipline in universities, aimed at “forming in students a system of knowledge, skills, abilities and values ​​related to the awareness of belonging to Russian society and the development of a sense of citizenship.” The majority of supporters see the benefit of “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” in students receiving additional knowledge about the country and its history (32% and 24% of respondents, respectively), as well as in the patriotic education of students (17%). 16% of respondents were against the introduction of the course. They mostly consider it a “useless subject” (28% of those who called the course unnecessary), propaganda (17%) or duplication of other subjects (16%). Among the topics that should be discussed in the course, history leads by a wide margin in the responses of respondents (25%). In second place is patriotic education (5%).

Let us recall that in another recent survey VTsIOM Russians also had a majority (63%) positive attitude towards the introduction of “talks about important things” in schools.
