Three new cases of human monkeypox infection detected in Cambodia

Three new cases of human monkeypox infection have been identified in Cambodia. The total number of people infected with this infection in the country has reached 17 people. The agency reported this TASS citing the local health department.

It is clarified that most cases of infection were recorded in the capital Phnom Penh among patients aged 20 to 43 years. Five people are being treated in a hospital.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global public health emergency. This is due to the fact that the infection is very quickly transmitted through airborne droplets, as well as through direct contact, including sexual contact.

The main symptoms of the disease include: fever, headache, myalgia (muscle pain – editor’s note), fatigue, swollen lymph nodes and rash.

In January of this year two cases of monkeypox were identified in St. Petersburg. Two men who returned from a tourist trip to Hong Kong fell ill with it.
