Silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Turin and three-time world champion Pavel Rostovtsev became the head coach of the Russian biathlon team. The appointment has already caused a wave of criticism, however, according to the athlete himself, this was to be expected.
As Rostovtsev told MK in St. Petersburg, the decision was discussed and agreed upon for a long time. And today, “the time has come to announce it officially.”
According to the biathlete, he was ready for a mixed reaction to his appointment. Shortly thereafter, sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev, for example, came out with criticism. He stated that the appointment was illegitimate, and the Russian biathlon team does not and cannot have any head coach.
“The fact that opinions will be ambiguous is expected, it cannot be otherwise. It doesn’t offend me, I take it easy. We look only forward, into the future, we do not look back.– answered Rostovtsev.
He added that the appointment to the post of head coach of the national team is a big responsibility for him, even taking into account experience. There is a lot of interesting work ahead.
“This season, all organizational and methodological plans have already been formed, senior coaches will train. It is already necessary to prepare for future competitions. I see my main task – February 2026, when we will have the main start of the four years. We will prepare for the Olympic Games. This is the most important task for the whole team.”said the coach.
