They have become painfully literate: Senator Pavlova spoke about the dangers of higher education

The fury with which the public, including its purely pro-government component, attacked Federation Council member Margarita Pavlova, who declared that higher education was not useful for girls and young people in general, indicates that the senator has recklessly stepped out of step with the times. It is not yet clear whether the senator is behind the times or, on the contrary, ahead of them.

Scandalous statements were made in an interview with Tsargrad TV, the central theme of which was the country’s demographic troubles. The parliamentarian offered her own recipe for solving the problem: “The value system must be revised… We need to stop encouraging girls to receive higher education. We need to stop producing young people who receive higher education, which then, in fact, leads to nothing. They start working either in completely different specialties, or something else. And this search for oneself, it drags on for many years, and as a result, this reproductive function is missed.”

It is not entirely clear to whom the senatorial appeal is addressed. But since it was uttered by a stateswoman, and not by a free philosopher, this makes us assume the state decisions that flow from these thoughts out loud. The most obvious: limiting budget (and perhaps not only budget) places in universities. With corresponding disposal of “extra” professors. Well, how else can we stop “producing young people who receive higher education”?

No, Pavlova’s reasoning is not without its logic. True, this logic does not fit well with the current era, but it is fully consistent with past, ancient eras, from which the senator herself draws inspiration and advises others the same: “We always believe that our ancestors were somehow narrow-minded, stupid, and we are always moving towards some kind of development. In some kind of mythical development. But time shows that development is equal to degradation… It is necessary, on the contrary, to look into the depths of centuries, into the depths of the experience of our ancestors.”

However, it should be noted that Pavlova’s concept categorically contradicts her own life experience. The senator was born in the village of Kichigino, Chelyabinsk region, in 1979, a distant year for some, and not so much for others. But after graduating from school, instead of staying in her native village and immediately fulfilling her childbearing function, Margarita Nikolaevna for some reason went to the regional capital to enter the Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture.

According to the Chelyabinsk press, she did not pass the competition: there were not enough points. But the thirst for knowledge was so great that the future senator got a job in a paid department. Two years later, however, she transferred to the budget and graduated from the university with honors, receiving the specialty “sociologist-psychologist of the socio-cultural sphere.”

However, just as in the vivid picture she painted of the ordeals of today’s restless youth, education “led to nothing”: Margarita Nikolaevna began working in a completely different specialty – she became a local television star. And only having established herself in this field, that is, not before, in her own words, she found herself, she decided to give birth to her first child.

In short, in her woeful story about the imperfections of the world and current upbringing, Margarita Nikolaevna, it turns out, described herself. And not only yourself, but also your closest and distant colleagues. In our state-political elite it is very difficult to find people without higher education and, perhaps, even more difficult – children of the elite (well, of the appropriate age), who do not have a university diploma and are not assigned by their fathers and mothers to cushy places, with a completed education, as a rule, completely unrelated.

“Perestroika begins with yourself,” one famous political figure once said. Much can be disputed in his ideological heritage, but not this slogan. Politicians advocating a revision of the value system must start with themselves, with their families. The offspring should not be directed to prestigious universities, not to criminal sinecures, but to factories, fields and farms. This way it will be both fairer and much more effective – from the point of view of mastering the idea by the masses. Otherwise, perhaps, there will be no way at all. Who will believe in such a restructuring, who will follow such politicians?

Well, you can, however, not wait for favors from the electorate, but take and adopt something similar to the “circular about cook’s children.” For reference: officially this normative act, signed on June 18 (30), 1887 by the Minister of Public Education of the Russian Empire Ivan Delyanov, was called “On the reduction of gymnasium education.”

Its goals are set out with the utmost frankness in the minister’s report addressed to Emperor Alexander III: “Thus, with strict observance of this rule, gymnasiums and pro-gymnasiums will be freed from enrolling the children of coachmen, footmen, cooks, laundresses, small shopkeepers and the like, whose children , with the exception perhaps of those gifted with genius abilities, one should not at all strive for secondary and higher education.”

Isn’t it this wonderful experience of her ancestors that Senator Pavlova intends to reproduce? In this case, we do not recommend it. As a person with a higher education in the humanities, the senator should remember how this and other similar experiments in social segregation ended. But you never know, it was forgotten amid government worries. Therefore, just in case, let’s refresh her memory: after 1887, the year was 1905. And then 1917.
