The Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Rostov Region intends in court to oblige the parish of the Ascension Cathedral in Novocherkassk to carry out work to preserve the building of the Bishop’s House – a cultural heritage site of regional significance. By order of the regional Ministry of Culture, the owner of the object was supposed to carry out restoration in 2021. Officials, in an arbitration procedure, demanded that the parish carry out the work within 24 months – otherwise the historical building could be completely lost. The rector of the Ascension Cathedral, Georgy Smorkalov, says that most of the restoration measures have already been implemented, and their complete completion will require approximately the same period that the committee insists on.
