How reports Kommersant newspaper, two Russian officers received prison sentences for the first time since the beginning of the Northern Military District for failing to repel a surprise attack by Ukrainian troops.

The publication clarifies that this verdict was the first such decision. The court considered the actions of the officers at the time of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which occurred in April 2022.

“From the Kharkov region of Ukraine, presumably, Tochka-U missiles struck an ammunition depot and equipment located in the area of ​​the village of Staraya Nelidovka, Belgorod region…. Seven (Russian – editor’s note) military personnel were killed,” – the message says.

The court sentenced the officers to four years in prison with credit for 1.5 years under investigation and trial. They will be eligible for parole in the future. Both defendants retained their officer ranks.
