The entire territory of Lebanon has been left without electricity for more than seven hours due to the emergency shutdown of two key thermal power plants. Information about this came from the company Électricité du Liban.
The plant operator, Deir Ammar and Zahrani, announced a scheduled shutdown of power plants starting at 17:00 local time (Moscow time) on Wednesday, pointing to foreign currency debt. The statement, received by the RIA Novosti agency, notes: “The operator has fulfilled its obligations.”
These two thermal power plants are the only sources of electricity for Lebanon, with a total capacity of 550 MW.
The incident also affected the operation of water pumping stations and various infrastructure facilities, which led to additional difficulties for the country’s residents.
The company noted that the event was out of its control and she tried to resolve the situation. On August 11, the operator of the TPP Primesouth warned of a possible shutdown of the stations, however, after receiving assurances from the authorities that the situation was resolved, additional time was provided to resolve the problem.
