According to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, many “innovations” at weddings held in the republic are unacceptable because they contradict national customs and traditions.
In his Telegram channel, he said that he had held a meeting attended by representatives of state bodies, the clergy and law enforcement agencies of the region. The main topic of discussion was the results of the work of a special commission dealing with the settlement of family conflicts.
Kadyrov singled out the issue related to the holding of wedding celebrations.
“Over the past few years, there has been a serious change in the approach to organizing weddings. There are rules that are completely disproportionate to the religious institutions and traditions of our people. People are held hostage to these innovations, which leads to a significant increase in the cost of organizing wedding events,” he explained. .
Kadyrov stressed that in Chechnya they managed to get rid of such a phenomenon as bride kidnapping, as well as other immoral practices that did not comply with Sharia.
“I instructed all those present that innovations are incompatible with our culture. I instructed the clergy to develop a set of measures that would help solve this problem. Government agencies will monitor compliance with established standards,” the head of the region added.
In Chechen society, the wedding ceremony has become a kind of indicator of the well-being of families. The groom’s side strives to make the celebration as solemn as possible, and the bride tries to collect a dowry, often incommensurate with her financial capabilities. It is traditionally believed that the more items in the bride’s dowry, the better, the same applies to the value of gifts exchanged by the parties.
