In the new academic year, students of Siberian universities will have access to a case on the creation of the Boguchansky Energy and Metallurgical Association as part of the economics course. About it informs Interfax. The training case was developed for students of SibFU, IRNITU, BrSU and other Russian universities by experts in business education. They analyzed an investment project in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, implemented on the basis of a public-private partnership. BEMO is a project that is unique in its scope and significance and is at the heart of the economic revival of Siberia.

Large-scale joint business project

The resumption of construction of the Boguchanskaya HPP was initiated by Oleg Deripaska, the founder of EN+ and RUSAL. As a result, RUSAL, RusHydro, the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as well as 10 federal and regional ministries and departments have united to create BEMO.

To complete the project, it was important to find a powerful consumer of electricity, an aluminum plant. “It should combine the most efficient environmentally friendly technologies that have appeared in the industry since Soviet times,” Oleg Deripaska noted at the beginning of construction.

In addition, the launch of the HPP and the plant required well-established operational logistics in the conditions of the Siberian taiga and the construction of social infrastructure. Exclusively thanks to the private-public partnership, all tasks were solved within the established time frame, as a result, new industrial production appeared in the harsh climatic conditions of our country and became the impetus for the economic breakthrough of the entire region.

An important domestic case for understanding the economy

Today, students of economic specialties of Siberian universities can analyze asset management practices and examples of solving economic problems using the example of BEMO. And the experience gained will be indispensable in their future work.

“The practical case study on BEMO will be a useful educational material for students who will soon ensure the economic and social growth of the country in practice. It is important not only to build the largest backbone enterprises in Siberia, but also to create an infrastructure for a quality life for people. Thanks to non-standard solutions, this complex task was effectively solved in the BEMO project,” said Mikhail Kornyakov, Rector of IRNITU.

The development of educational materials based on the economic and industrial practice of the Russian Federation is especially relevant today, when most of the cases presented in the courses are based on foreign examples. Domestic examples will enable students to thoroughly study the specifics of Russian business.
