Former deputy head of the police department in Sverdlovsk accused of attempted fraud

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Sverdlovsk Region, in a publication on its Telegram channel, reported that the former deputy head of the Irbitsky police department was accused of attempted fraud, and a criminal case was initiated against him.
The investigation established that in the period from June to July of this year, the accused demanded a significant amount of money from two residents of Irbit for not bringing them to criminal responsibility for committing a grave property crime. At the same time, the materials of the criminal case indicate that the defendant was aware that one of the citizens had the status of a suspect, but continued to demand money.
It is noted that on July 11, the policeman was caught red-handed by operatives of the regional department of the FSB after receiving part of the previously agreed amount of funds. The regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that the detainee was charged with committing a crime under part 3 of article 30 and part 3 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“attempted fraud on a significant scale committed by a person using his official position”).
The department added that at the request of the RF IC, the defendant was taken into custody, and during the investigation he admitted his guilt.
