The Turks stopped marrying Russian women: for whom they exchanged

A Turkish sociological study has alerted those Russians who still expect to naturalize in Turkey by officially marrying their Turkish boyfriend or a promising online acquaintance. If you believe the inexorable figures, for the last six months, and especially for the first two months of the new year, the Turks are not only less likely to call citizens of the Russian Federation down the aisle, but even less looking for them on the Web. In any case, we did not get into the top three of the new favorites of Turkish subjects – and almost for the first time in recent history. In the pre-pandemic years, Russian women were indisputably the leaders in the hearts and thoughts of Turkish men. And now the first place – and not only in the hearts, but also in the passports of Turkish men – according to the statistics of official marriages, Syrians have been taken away from Russian women: among the foreign brides of Turks, they are the most – 13.2%. While back in 2020, Russian women were indisputably the leaders in the number of brides for Turkish men, and Syrians were not even among the top five most popular girls for marriage.

“Our girls have become too emancipated,” says a father from Trabzon, who recently celebrated his son a magnificent wedding with a girl from Aleppo (it is considered indecent for the newlyweds themselves to discuss their marriage with outsiders). – Maybe this is what suitors from secular families, from big cities like. But we are observant believers and wanted a good Muslim woman for our son. The family of our daughter-in-law has been living in our city for several years, I watched them for a long time before sending my wife to woo the bride. These people bring up in their children, first of all, honor and respect both for the Almighty and for their neighbor, and this is the most important thing. With this, you can already build a happy family.

– What about the language barrier?

– There is a large Syrian diaspora in our country and they themselves quickly master our language and teach it to their children – and this, like the observance of local customs, respect for the language of the country that adopted them. But in general, the traditions of our peoples are similar and Syrian families are also happy to give their daughters to good Turkish families. Previously, Russians were also taken as wives by our guys, but the language barrier did not interfere.

– You say “they used to take it”, won’t they take it anymore?

– Now, when there are too many Russians in our country, it has become more difficult. Previously, if a Turkish guy really wanted to build a good family with a Russian, have children with her and persuaded his relatives to accept her, then sometimes it worked out. The daughter-in-law completely fell into her husband’s environment and gradually merged into it – she studied the language, adopted customs. And now Russian daughters-in-law, instead of taking care of their husband and children, sit on the phone all day, chatting with their relatives, running to Russian gatherings in cafes. And there are so many young men from the Russian Federation that no Turkish husband would like it. Now we have so many Russians free from family debt that it is just right for them to marry among themselves.

As for the general opinion of Turkish men, the “gold” of the Syrians in terms of being in demand among compatriots is quite deserved: Syrians are beautiful and submissive. While our compatriots are simply beautiful.

In second place are Turkish grooms of brides from Azerbaijan: 10% of all marriages of Turks with foreign women.

“We and the Turks are historically one nation,” assures a Bakuvian who recently married his daughter to a native of Istanbul. – Our young people easily understand each other, we are all Muslims living in secular countries, family upbringing and attitudes towards marriage are similar. I allowed my daughter to often visit Istanbul in the company of her fellow students at the university, they are all very worthy young people. And he was only glad when she met a young man from a very worthy Istanbul family. They immediately liked each other, but did not begin to meet without parental approval. We met families, the groom’s parents came to visit us, and we to them, everyone liked each other and got married.

– And if your daughter in the same Istanbul fell in love with a Russian guy, would they be banned?

– I would not prohibit anything, we live in the 21st century. But I would talk heart to heart with my daughter, I would try to convey my attitude to her.

– Bad attitude?

– No, not bad. But if suddenly something goes wrong in my daughter’s marriage to a Turkish guy, I know how to help, how to influence. And I know exactly how my son-in-law’s parents will behave. We will definitely be at the same time, on the same wavelength and we will be able to solve all problems. And in the case of a Russian husband, I cannot be sure of anything. If he, for example, declares: “I stopped loving you and I’m leaving.” It seems to be his right, once out of love. But what should I do with my daughter?!

– A Turk can not stop loving, or what?

– When a Turkish guy marries (for real, with the approval of his family, and does not powder the brains of a foreign woman with an allegedly Muslim marriage without a stamp), he already understands that he takes not just a girl, but responsibility for her fate, honor and material security. And for “falling out of love” he will be condemned not only by his wife’s family, but also by his own and those around him. And no one else will give his daughter for him. Fell in love, fell out of love – it’s not manly!

The third place of sympathy for Turkish grooms is with brides from Germany, they are 9%. At the same time, Turkish women themselves, according to their Institute of Statistics, prefer Germans: 24.9% of the total number of Turkish women who have connected their lives with foreigners are married to them.

– There are also many mixed marriages, like Klaus and I, – says Salmaz, the Turkish wife of a German citizen. – But the main statistics of “German” grooms and brides of Turkish citizens, I think, were nevertheless made by ethnic Turks from immigrant families who received German citizenship. There are a lot of such people in Germany now, the second generation has already grown. But such families cherish their traditions and try to look after the brides-grooms for their children in their historical homeland.

– Don’t the “true Aryans” follow the Turks?

– Some are coming. But not so much.

By the way, the citizens of Syria are also in favor with Turkish women: 19% of Turkish women preferred Syrians, which is a well-deserved “silver” in the overall standings of marriages of Turkish citizens with foreigners. Although Russian women remained in the top five of Turkish men’s sympathies, with their 6% they slipped down the pedestal – to 4th place.
