The State Duma Committee on Family Affairs supported a bill banning the adoption of Russian orphans by citizens of unfriendly countries. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the head of the committee, Nina Ostanina.
August 1, 2022 deputies from the parties of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party, “A Just Russia – For the Truth” and “New People” made for consideration by the State Duma a draft law blocking the possibility of adoption and custody of orphans from Russia to citizens of unfriendly states. A similar law that banned the adoption of Russian children by US citizens was adopted in Russia in 2012, it received the unofficial name “Dima Yakovlev’s law”. Ministry of Education requested postpone the new bill and wait for the government’s position.
