Honored statesman of Armenia, the USSR and Russia Georgy Ter-Ghazaryants died at the age of 100 in his apartment in the center of Moscow on December 31.
As MK learned, Georgy Artashesovich felt unwell and lost consciousness in front of his relatives at about 8:20 p.m. Just 10 minutes later, the city’s emergency services were at his apartment on Malaya Polyanka. Resuscitation measures, which took more than half an hour, did not yield any results – doctors declared death.
“MK” information: Georgy Ter-Ghazaryants was born on March 10, 1923, took part in the Great Patriotic War. After the war, Ter-Ghazaryants became a party and government figure. From 1973 to 1983 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Senegal and Gambia, from 1981 to 1987 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Zimbabwe. Since 2004 – first vice-president of the Union of Armenians of Russia. He has awards – the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree, the medal “For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, the medal “For the Defense of the Caucasus”, etc.
