A group of deputies of the State Duma, headed by the chairman of the lower house, Vyacheslav Volodin, proposed amending the Federal Law “On Veterans”. The bill proposes to grant the status of a veteran of military operations to participants in a military operation who have entered into a contract with “organizations that assist the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, as well as to give them the right to receive the status of a combat invalid, said press office State Duma.

“Everyone who risks their lives today, defending our country during the NWO, should have an equal status – a combat veteran, be sure that the state will take care of them and their families, regardless of whether it is a soldier, an officer, a volunteer, – everyone who participates in the fulfillment of the tasks of the SVO,”— said Mr. Volodin, commenting on the initiative to war correspondent Yuri Kotenok.

November 21, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on granting the status of a combat veteran to volunteers who participate in the military operation in Ukraine. The formation of volunteer units began in the Russian regions in the first half of 2022. Since the beginning of the special operation in Russia, more than 40 volunteer units have been created.

At the same time, the legal status of fighters of private military campaigns, including the Wagner group, remains unclear. PMC employees were not included in the November law on granting veteran status to volunteers of the military operation. In February, Vladimir Putin declaredthat the authorities are studying the issue of providing social guarantees to the families of PMC fighters who participate in a special military operation, on an equal basis with military personnel.
