Two tons of cocaine drifting at sea found off the coast of Sicily
A large consignment of cocaine, drifting in the sea east of Sicily, with a total weight of almost two tons, was discovered by the Italian Financial Guard.
According to the agency, the total value of the “catch” in the drug market would be at least 400 million euros. The found cargo became one of the record ones in the country.
The report notes that the marine units of the Fingvardia found numerous floating packages that were fastened with a net and equipped with a signal light device.
“An external assessment of the found cargo showed a special “care” for the packaging, presumably aimed at preventing the ingress of water, the Italian Finguardia said.
According to the original version, the cargo was left at sea by a ship of drug traffickers, then to be delivered to land. In total, the operation made it possible to seize 1,600 packets of white powder, packaged in 70 containers.
