The State Duma postponed hearings on the ban on LGBT propaganda

The State Duma Council postponed parliamentary hearings on the issue of a complete ban on propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations in Russia from September 29 to October 17 in connection with the work of deputies in referendums in the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. This was reported in the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.

“The Council of the State Duma approved the postponement of open parliamentary hearings from September 29 to October 17. The transfer was for an objective reason – many deputies worked as observers at referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, ”the press service said.

Earlier, the chairman of the information policy committee, Alexander Khinshtein, told Kommersant about plans to hold hearings in October. However, on September 19 they were postponed to September 29. As Kommersant was told by the chairman of the committee on family issues, Nina Ostanina (KPRF), the postponement was due to the fact that the project was “belated”. Another participant in the meeting explained that this was due to the resonance and demands of the parent community to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

At the hearings, two bills will be discussed – on extending the ban on propaganda of non-traditional relations to citizens of all ages, increasing fines and a project to include propaganda in the list of prohibited information, establishing a ban on issuing cinemas a rental certificate for films containing such propaganda.

Liability under Art. 6.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations) is currently provided only for propaganda among minors. For individuals – from 4 thousand rubles to 100 thousand rubles, for legal entities – 8 thousand rubles to 1 million rubles.
