The failure of Telegram and a number of other instant messengers in Russia, recorded on Tuesday, February 27, occurred due to a check and reconfiguration of Roskomnadzor gateways. Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Anton Tkachev spoke about this.

As the parliamentarian explained in a commentary to Duma TV, “as part of the reconfiguration of Roskomnadzor, a number of systems may fail.”

Tkachev said that “Roskomnadzor conducted this check to understand where these bottlenecks are, which could in the future lead to the possible unblocking of one of the gateways or channels.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation announced that it was working together with Roskomnadzor to establish the cause of the incident. At the same time, the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ domains assured that the domain infrastructure was working properly.

Against this background, some Internet users earned without VPN Instagram (banned social network; owned by Meta, which is extremist and banned in Russia) and X, formerly known as Twitter.
