State Duma deputy Sergei Kolunov told RIA Novosti that he was considering a proposal to introduce fines of up to 700 thousand rubles for not cutting down hogweed.
On Wednesday, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill that involves mandatory measures to combat this plant. Invasive species are plants that can threaten native flora and fauna, as well as be dangerous to people.
Changes are being made to the Code of Administrative Offenses and provide for increased fines for individuals and legal entities for failure to fulfill obligations for land reclamation and protection, including for failure to cut down invasive plants.
