The State Duma adopted in the first reading bill on increasing the minimum wage (minimum wage). According to the document, from January 1, 2024, the minimum wage will be increased by 18.5%, to 19,242 rubles. The bill sets the ratio of the minimum wage to the average salary at a level of no less than 48% from 2025.
Currently, the minimum wage is 16,242 rubles. “The adoption of the bill will help ensure an increase in wages for about 4.8 million workers,” says the explanatory note to the project.
The government submitted the project to the State Duma for consideration on September 29. The note states that the bill was introduced based on President Vladimir Putin’s message to the Federal Assembly in February 2023. In it, the president instructed to increase the minimum wage by 10% from January 1, 2024. The amount of benefits for disability, pregnancy and childbirth, sick leave and other social insurance payments also depends on the minimum wage.
