Teacher’s Day, Health Worker’s Day, Teacher’s Day turned out to be the most popular professional holidays among Russian Odnoklassniki users over the past year.
Social network analysts studied the holidays that were most actively celebrated by users from October 2022 to September 2023 inclusive. Information was obtained from open and aggregated data about which holidays users indicated as personal in their profiles – this information was posted by hundreds of thousands of people.
The Top 10 most popular professional holidays among Russians include: Teacher’s Day (October 5), Teacher’s Day and All Preschool Workers’ Day (September 27), Medical Worker’s Day (third Sunday in June), Builder’s Day (second Sunday in August), Railway Worker’s Day ( first Sunday in August), Trade Worker’s Day (fourth Saturday of July), Lawyer’s Day (December 3), Radio Day (May 7), Financier’s Day (September 8) and Firefighter’s Day (April 30).
In different cities, different professional holidays became opinion leaders. For example, in Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk, Railway Worker’s Day became the third most popular, in Vladivostok – second. Least of all, Russians celebrated Economist’s Day, Geographer’s Day and Archaeologist’s Day.
According to clinical psychologist Daria Yausheva, when celebrating professional dates, people honor one of their social roles or identities.
“The holiday provides an opportunity to once again answer the question “who am I?” the expert explained. “In addition, this is a time when you can receive confirmation from others. We are social <...> This includes feeling out the circle of “ours”, and a wide circle of “ours”, and testing connections and strengthening them.”
