The State Duma called the proposal of the mayor of Bodaibo to destroy stray dogs “idiotic”

In the Russian power structures, a scandal erupted around roaming animals. The mayor of the city of Bodaibo, in the Irkutsk region, Yevgeny Yumashev proposed to kill stray dogs by shooting. He referred to the practice of eliminating urban stray animals that existed in the USSR. However, his idea did not find support among the “powerful of this world.” The State Duma called his proposal corruption and sabotage, and also stated that such an “idiotic initiative will not be supported.”

As informed The Rise Telegram channel, Vladimir Burmatov, deputy chairman of the committee on ecology of the lower house of the Russian parliament, pointed out that Yevgeny Yumashev’s proposal was illegal.

“We have mayors who are nostalgic for the previous system, when the mass shooting of dogs was allowed,” the deputy said. – When it was not a serious criminal offense and brought in millions of absolutely unaccounted for funds. It was such a corrupt cut budget item. And some mayors still cannot recover from the fact that this shop was closed.

The MP recalled that today it is forbidden to release aggressive dogs from shelters that can attack people.

He added that he perceives such an initiative as unwillingness to work. “Now he didn’t like dogs, and he decided to do something radical, and who won’t he like next time? Burmatov asked. “The main thing is that he does not take on pensioners.”

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources for 2021, there are about half a million stray dogs in Russia alone, and no one counted cats at all. Since 2014, in the Moscow Region, the number of homeless animals has been regulated with the help of the OSVV program – dogs are caught, vaccinated, sterilized, after which about 90% of them are returned to the streets. Only those who have a chance to find a new home and caring owners are left in shelters. As a rule, these are pets of small size with a complaisant character.
