The State Duma adopted a law establishing a ban on the forced collection of biometrics, as well as any discrimination against persons who refused to surrender it, transmits press office of the lower house.

“The law establishes that the delivery of biometric data is an absolutely voluntary process, and the collection of biometrics of minors will be carried out only with the consent of the parents. Coercion to surrender and discrimination in the provision of services will be punished, ”the message says.

The document notes that the refusal to submit biometrics can be issued in writing through any branch of the MFC. Citizens who do not want to provide biometric data will not be able to refuse services, including state and municipal ones.

In addition, you can revoke your previously given consent to the processing of biometrics at any time. For minor children, this can be done by parents or guardians.

The first version of the bill regulating the operation of the GIS “Unified Biometric System” (UBS), State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin introduced for consideration by the lower house of parliament on 12 October. On November 24, it was adopted in the first reading. In his Telegram channel, Gorelkin clarified that the bill does not imply the introduction of mandatory biometrics.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin pointed outthat various commercial organizations uncontrollably collect the biometrics of citizens, often the data is leaked, and then used by attackers. That is why a number of changes had to be made.
