In the UK, due to abnormal heat for the first time in history, the source of the English River Thames dried up. The source has shifted eight kilometers lower from the former place where the river began.
“After an extended period of dry weather, the source of the Thames in Gloucestershire has dried up, and a weak stream is now barely visible more than eight kilometers downstream,” said Dr. Rob Collins, one of the leaders of the environmental charity Rivers Trust.
He added that in a constantly changing climate, such devastating swings will continue, and their frequency and duration will increase. Collins stressed the need to introduce metering across the country and reduce leaks in water networks.
The weather service of the United Kingdom said that the heat and dryness are not going to subside, rain is also not expected in the near future. So the temperature in the UK next week will again exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
