The Russian Orthodox Church admitted that one of the lists of Rublev’s “Trinity” will be put up in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior

The head of the expert council of the Moscow Patriarchate on church art, architecture and restoration, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, said that by June 4, one of the miraculous lists of the Trinity icon by icon painter Andrei Rublev could be put up in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. According to him, this option is possible if the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill “deems it necessary.”

Archpriest Leonid Kalinin in conversation with “Interfax” explained that the dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the Tretyakov Gallery on the transfer of the “Trinity” is “in good faith. “Storage conditions must be provided for it anywhere — even in the Tretyakov Gallery, even in the Trinity Lavra Cathedral, and here it’s not the place that matters, but the quality of the capsule in which the icon will be placed,” he said.

Leonid Kalinin admitted that, if “Patriarch Kirill deems it necessary,” one of the miraculous lists of the “Trinity” would be put up for a while in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on June 4. After the original icon will take place in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

On May 16, Patriarch Kirill asked the presidential administration to coordinate the transfer of the icon to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for the celebration of the Trinity (June 4).

The director of the Pushkin Museum, Elizaveta Likhacheva, said that the icon “might simply be lost, it might fall apart” due to the transfer to the Russian Orthodox Church. According to art historian Elena Rodnina, to preserve the icon, the temperature must be maintained at +18–20°C and humidity at 50–55%. Otherwise, the “Trinity” “may be irreversibly destroyed.”
