The founder of the Wildberries company and the richest woman in Russia by versions Forbes Tatyana Bakalchuk has an “extremely negative” attitude towards the idea of having children first, and only then getting an education or building a career. In her opinion, stereotypes should not be imposed on girls.
“Nothing can be imposed on anyone. If a girl first of all wants to take care of her family and children, that’s good, but imposing a stereotype that she should do this is wrong. When we talked with respected people about education, I said that I would not impose the idea of “first get married and have children, and then have a career,” Ms. Bakalchuk said at the “Generation” business forum, her words are quoted “Vedomosti”.
The entrepreneur recalled that at the age of 20 she was not hired precisely because she had recently gotten married, because the employer believed that she would go on maternity leave. “And I actually went on maternity leave, and then founded Wildberries,” she added. “I will not recommend that my three daughters get married before they get on their feet,” Ms. Bakalchuk said.
The founder of Wildberries believes that the modern economy allows women not to choose between family and career: remote work or business can be combined with caring for children. According to her, the main thing is to understand how to combine family and career. Forbes estimates Tatyana Bakalchuk’s fortune at $7 billion – she is the richest woman in Russia.
