In Crimea, a seven-kilometer hydrotunnel was drilled through the mountain range near Ai-Petri to supply water to Yalta from reservoirs on the northern side of the Crimean Mountains. This was announced by Andrey Bulygin, Deputy General Director of the PRiSS tunnel construction contractor.

“In the existing (on the south side) tunnel, which is 1540 meters long, we made a receiving chamber for the tunneling shield, slightly larger than the shield itself. And so, having passed 5646 meters, we came out into this chamber, and a connection occurred. The tunnel is physically ready,” said Mr. Bulygin “RIA News”.

All work, including the installation of seismic sensors, is planned to be completed in April. “After this, the tunnel will be accepted and transferred to the operating organization,” added Andrey Bulygin.

Water through the tunnel, according to plans, will be supplied from the Schastlivoe-2 reservoir, located on the northern side of the mountain range. Water will flow to Yalta and nearby villages. The new route duplicates the old hydrotunnel, which is in disrepair.
