The prosecutor’s office took control of the investigation of the mass death of birds in the Stavropol Territory

In the Petrovsky city district of the Stavropol Territory, where the largest number of dead birds and animals has been recorded since the beginning of November, an additional check has been scheduled at the direction of the Stavropol Prosecutor Yuri Nemkin. Kommersant was informed about this in the press service of the department.
The reason for the check was new publications in the media and social networks, as well as “appeals of citizens” about the mass death of representatives of the animal world in the region. According to preliminary data, more than 1.7 thousand cases of death of common cranes listed in the Red Book, as well as other birds and animals, have already been recorded in the Petrovsky district.
“For a comprehensive investigation,” the regional prosecutor’s office agreed on unscheduled inspections of the Rosselkhoznadzor. According to the results of the studies, it turned out that the overwhelming majority of animals died due to poisoning with zinc phosphide, “which is prohibited for use.”
During the inspections, 12 agricultural producers were also identified, who were warned about the inadmissibility of violating the law, and four protocols were drawn up on “violating the rules for handling pesticides and agrochemicals” (Article 8.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
The department of the TFR in the Stavropol Territory is also investigating two criminal cases under the article “violation of the rules established for the fight against diseases and pests of plants, which negligently entailed grave consequences” (part 2 of article 249 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the investigation, in November of this year, “if the technology for using the drug used to control rodents was not followed, it was spread on the soil surface, resulting in serious environmental consequences in the form of the death of common cranes, as a result of which damage was caused to the state.”
As clarified in the regional prosecutor’s office, the course and results of the investigation are under the control of the department.
