The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has recognized the German NGO Zentrum fur Osteuropa – und internationale Studien (Center for Eastern European and International Studies) as undesirable. The agency believes that the center distorts facts and publishes false information.
In a message from the Prosecutor General’s Office Telegram channel it is indicated that the German NGO “initiated anti-Russian sentiments.” The agency established that the organization collects information about the activities of Russian authorities, internal political processes and, based on the data received, prepares reports that “distort the real state of affairs in our country and are clearly anti-Russian in nature.”
“Using the opportunities for international exchange of specialists within the framework of interstate programs, the organization tried to push through the accents it needed, to force Russian experts to promote ideas of hatred towards Russia and its leadership,” the supervisory authority said in a statement.
The Institute was founded by a resolution of the German Bundestag. It began operating in October 2016 and was officially opened on March 27, 2017. The center is based in Berlin and conducts social research in Eastern Europe and advises policymakers, the media and the public.
