“In other words, this is complete nonsense”

In the case of Ksenia, a Muscovite with many children, (name changed) – the mother of 15 children, who was detained on suspicion of child trafficking, new details have emerged. She claims to be the natural mother of five of her offspring (she adopted the rest): three were carried by surrogate mothers, and two she gave birth to using assisted reproductive technologies. At the same time, as the investigation found, several years before these IVF procedures, the woman’s uterus was removed. Is it possible to give birth without a uterus, MK learned from experts.

As follows from the investigation materials, in 2010, the defendant in the criminal case underwent emergency surgery for a whole range of gynecological problems. At that time, she was pregnant with twins, but doctors had to terminate the pregnancy and perform a hysterectomy, that is, complete removal of the uterus. After this operation, as Ksenia assures and even as the documents she provided testify, she gave birth to two children through in vitro fertilization.

Ksenia’s relatives assure that it is possible to have children with the uterus removed. And supposedly such cases are even described in the scientific literature. And this is exactly the miracle that happened to a mother with many children.

As the professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MGMSU told MK. Evdokimova, head of the public organization “Society of Doctors Involved in the Study and Treatment of Uterine Fibroids” Alexander Tikhomirov, this simply cannot happen:

– IVF is in vitro fertilization, that is, an egg or sperm is taken, and the fertilization process occurs in a test tube, where the formation of a blastocyst, the future embryo, begins. But the entire process of this assisted reproductive technology is called IVF plus ET. That is, IVF is followed by embryo transfer. And it is transferred only to the uterus.

Embryos are not transferred into the nose, into the abdominal cavity, or anywhere else; they do not develop there. And talk about how someone somewhere carried and gave birth to a child without a uterus, but with ovaries, is similar to talk about the immaculate conception. In other words, this is complete nonsense. There are no miracles: no womb, no children.

– Therefore, any ectopic pregnancy is doomed?

– Ectopic pregnancy is most often tubal or ovarian. Peritoneal ectopic pregnancy, when the fetus is attached to the peritoneum, is extremely rare. Any ectopic pregnancy, you are right, is doomed, because the fetus simply has nowhere to come out. Therefore, this problem is solved surgically.
