Pope Francis during a collective audience said that he was concerned about the situation with the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, and called on the parties to the conflict to respect the places of religious worship.
“People of any denomination who devote themselves to prayer are a support for the people of God,” he said.
Formerly Ukrainian Ministry of Culture declared on the termination of the lease agreement with the UOC for the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra due to unnamed violations of the terms of the contract for the use of property.
The clergy were told that they would be able to stay if they transferred to the OCU.
The rector of the Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel, stressed that the monks would not be evicted.
