Ural Airlines pilot Sergei Belov, who landed the plane in a wheat field, shared details of the events of September 12. He is quoted by the Baza Telegram channel.
According to him, the crew made the decision not to land at the Omsk airport, in particular, due to weather conditions: when the hydraulic system turned off, gusty winds were blowing at the airport. Belov did not want to take risks and turned the aircraft towards Novosibirsk.
When changing the route, the landing gear door of the airliner did not close. The pilot emphasized that he took this into account when calculating the required amount of fuel to Novosibirsk – consumption increased by 15%.
However, then something strange happened. “During the flight, everything was fine with fuel, but after the point of returning to the airfield in Omsk, my fuel began to decrease critically…” recalls Belov.
Due to a fuel shortage, the crew decided to make an emergency landing in a field. There were 161 people and 6 crew members flying on board the A320. No one was injured as a result of the emergency landing.
