The number of cyber attacks on information systems in Russia grew by 65%

In 2023, the number of cyber attacks on Russian systems increased by 65%. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting with young scientists, inventors and technological entrepreneurs of the world-class Eurasian REC in Ufa.

“Now we see a 65% increase compared to last year in the number of cyber attacks, and here we need to understand that they often have the nature of identifying vulnerabilities in order to implement these vulnerabilities at the right time,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Chernyshenko blamed Western countries for attacks on information systems.

In January of this year, Deputy Prime Minister declaredthat in 2022, about 50,000 hacker attacks on Russian Internet resources were repelled. According to him, in 2021 the target of the attacks was the financial sector, and in 2022 the public sector. Chernyshenko added that “many thousands of different computer vulnerabilities” have also been identified.

In early February, Nikolai Murashov, deputy director of the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents created by the FSB, noted a significant increase in the number of cyberattacks since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. He said that a “cybercompany of unprecedented scale” was deployed against Russia, the purpose of which is to disable the information infrastructure and gain access to the systems of organizations and enterprises.

In early March, due to hacker attacks on the communications infrastructure of the Ministry of Emergencies had to reschedule comprehensive inspections of public warning systems. In particular, the inspection on March 1 was canceled in the Tomsk, Samara, Kursk, Voronezh regions, in the Krasnodar Territory, etc.
